2013

Born in Birmingham

The idea behind Ucademy started in Birmingham in 2013 — a group of academics coming together to build an educational model that could help many students achieve to a high standard.

The four commitments.

Everything Ucademy does — the tutoring, the reports, the guarantee — comes out of these four principles.

  1. i.

    Diagnose before prescribing

Every student starts with a free consultation — a structured assessment that identifies which topics, habits, and exam techniques are actually missing. Tutoring follows the diagnosis, not the other way round.

  2. ii.

Build the habit before the result

Grades are a lagging indicator. We teach the daily mechanics of revision — spaced repetition, retrieval practice, deliberate testing — so students arrive at the exam already prepared, not panicking the night before.

  3. iii.

    Hold the line on accountability

Weekly progress reports. Real homework with real feedback. A direct line to the tutor between sessions. The hard conversations happen at the kitchen table, not on results day.

  4. iv.

    Underwrite the method

If the method works, the fee should reflect that. On our Premium tier, the money-back guarantee is the contract — A/A* on completion of a Full Course, or your money back. No fine print, no exceptions for inconvenient cases.

Our Story.

From a single Oxford place to a worldwide team — the road that built Ucademy.

  1. 2011

The founder, Usman, gains a place at the prestigious Oxford University. Naturally, this led to requests from the community for help in achieving success in their own education.

  2. 2013

As the requests began to increase, a group of academics came together to realise an educational model that could help many achieve success to a high standard. Ucademy officially began teaching GCSE and A-level tutorials, and the company name Ucademy was born.

  3. 2018

The company develops its unique Artificial Intelligence and benchmarking tool, never before used in the tutoring industry, to help identify areas of strength and weakness for students.

  4. 2019

Ucademy expands its offerings to multiple areas across Birmingham and outside.

  5. 2020

Ucademy begins to offer courses to international students in a wide array of subjects.

  6. 2024

With a team of over 50 across the world, Ucademy delivers on its promise of a grade A/A* guarantee year in and year out.

A note from the founder

Since 2013, the method is the same. The standard is the same.

Ucademy began with a single conviction: that the kind of education students get at Eton, Westminster, or King Edward's shouldn't be gated by postcode or fee. If we could put rigorous teaching, accountability, and exam strategy online — for less than the price of an in-person tutor in London — we'd change what was possible for thousands of families.

The conviction still holds. The method has been refined — diagnose first, build the habit before the result, hold the line on accountability — but the standard has not moved. Our method and curriculum are designed by Oxford and Cambridge educated tutors, and a good number of the tutors who teach our students studied there too. Eligible Premium Full Courses carry the money-back grade guarantee. Every parent gets a real progress report every week, written by a real human.

The Premium-tier guarantee isn't marketing. It's the consequence of a method we trust enough to underwrite. If we cannot move a student a band, we have not done our job — and the fee should reflect that.

Who teaches at Ucademy.

Three categories of faculty, one bar — serious teaching experience, examiner insight, and selective academic standards.

Oxford & Cambridge educated

Our method and curriculum are designed by Oxford and Cambridge educated tutors, and a good number of the tutors who teach our students studied there too. The bar is the bar — it doesn't move because the academic year is starting and we need bodies in seats.

Examiners & department heads

Several of our senior tutors are official examiners or department heads at leading independent and grammar schools. They write the syllabus during the day; they teach it to our students in the evening.

02 · Senior faculty
Admissions specialists

Dedicated specialists for Oxford and Cambridge applications, Medicine, and Engineering — drawing on first-hand experience of the admissions process at the schools they're preparing students to enter.
